Meadow Market Matters: Vol 1
Tallow, Trusty serum and a Tasty treat
Welcome to the very first edition of the Meadow Market newsletter — a space where we aim to keep you updated on new health trends, new products and new wellness ideas. Every subscriber is part of a vibrant community who believe shopping should be honest, ethical, fair and conscientious.
Where it all began: meet the Meadow Market Team
Meadow Market was born out of a two-fold passion: a passion for health and well-being made easy and accessible, and a passion to make a difference in our local community and world. By helping skilled entrepreneurs sell their excellent, lovingly crafted products without having to man a market stall for endless hours or pay the cost of hosting a stall, we believe we have a winning recipe.
Meadow Market officially opened online on 27 July 2025, with just a few products on its shelf. We have subsequently added several items to the list, and will keep on adding. Feel free to let us know if there is something you think we should be selling. Any other comments or ideas are welcome too.

But who are we? Well, we’re just an ordinary family of five, living in Paarl. A husband, wife, two teenage daughters and a soon-to-be-married son who currently lives and studies in England. Ten or so years ago we started on a wellness journey, making small changes to benefit our own health and that of our planet, fully aware that we still have so much to learn. We do however love to share what we know with other people, such as yourself.
Without flooding your inbox, we hope to use our newsletters to inspire you to make better choices.

This Month’s Focus: Organic tallow
Tallow is the new buzz-word in the health world, but in reality it was used as a cooking fat for quite some time already. Now, beef tallow is experiencing a renewed interest, not only as a food but also for skincare. At Meadow Market we think that anything we apply to our skins should be edible and natural. After all: our skin is our biggest organ, capable of absorbing whatever we apply.
Tallow is rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K as well as anti-inflammatory fatty acids, absorbs easily and moisturises effectively. We are delighted to sell a range of Platbakkies Tallow Treats products, or just PTT in short. These include lip balm, sunscreen, face cream, a soap bar and a shampoo bar. All PTT products are hand-made in small batches by a hard-working family who raise their own cattle on the border of Namaqualand and Boesmanland - organically, ethically and with great care. They also just happened to feature in the latest edition of the ‘Weg’ magazine!

We are delighted to have been able to visit the Platbakkies farm (some photos above). The Burden family are just as real and intentional as the products they so lovingly produce.
Earth Spirit Face Renewal Serum
We only hear good things about the Earth Spirit Face Renewal Serum, made locally and selling at a really good price. Creator, Nadia Heyns, has perfected her recipe over the course of many years. Read some of the feedback below, and then try it yourself...
‘I was given a sample a while ago. After a shower, I put 2 or 3 drops in the palm of my hand and massage it into warm, dry skin. It is magic! It softens my old wrinkles. The hard skin on my elbows were gone after a few applications.’
‘The serum melts into my skin.’
‘This serum is absolutely amazing! Of all the many serums I have tried thus far, this is the first one that truly feeds my skin. Well done!’
‘I have used multiple serums. This one compares with Clarins’ double serum. It is tops and the price is amazing. I’ve received so many compliments about my skin ever since I’ve been using this.’
